Burial Services

Edhi Foundation has the largest network for the burial of unclaimed and heirless dead bodies in Pakistan. Seperate graveyards are established in major cities of Pakistan. Mr. Edhi perhaps holds the record for giving the last bath with his own hands to about 20,000 unclaimed dead bodies and for arranging their burial.

Metropolitan coorporation of all big cities in Pakistan have made annual contracts with Edhi Foundation for burial of unidentified dead bodies recovered from drowning, homicides and accidents. Coffin cloth and coffin boxes are provided free of cost to those who cannot afford or manage burial rites themselves. All dead bodies are provided services according to their own religious rites.

In addition to the above, large air conditioned cold mortuaries have been established in Karachi to keep unidentified bodies for a couple of days before performing burial rites if the next of kin is not traceable.
